Before the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance & Memorial
Affairs of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Regarding
14 Bills
June 12 , 2008
Good morning, Chairman Hall, Ranking Member
Lamborn, and other Members of this distinguished Subcommittee. On
behalf of the members of Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA),
we thank you for the opportunity to appear here today to
share our views on several of the bills up for consideration.
We ask that our full statement be entered in the record,
and I will briefly summarize the most salient points of our
statement.
We’d like to begin with H.R.
5954, which would provide veterans for presumptions
of service connection for purposes of benefits for diseases
associated with service in the Armed Forces and exposure
to biological, chemical, or other toxic agents as part
of Project 112.
Color Guard Pass In Review
The Vietnam Women’s Memorial
15th Anniversary Commemoration
Vietnam Veterans of America is proud, once again, to be working in cooperation with the Vietnam Women’s Memorial Foundation in the planning of the commemoration of the dedication of this memorial.
VVA developed and organized the historic Color Guard Pass In Review Ceremony for the 10th Anniversary of VWM. It was recognized as a most dramatic, emotional and honorable observance.
On Veterans’ Day, November 11, 2008, VVA will be hosting the 15th Anniversary Color Guard Pass In Review. To register and be a part of this moving event please send an e-mail to: bwhitaker@vva.org. Include in your e-mail: Chapter #, Post # or group name; your location; contact information; number of individuals in your Color Guard. To review added details of this event along with formation location and time, check on the Women Veterans committee page.
Pass the word on to others you know.
NOTE: By order of Park Police, no weapons or replicas may be used.
The Wall 25th Anniversary Commemorative book
To commemorate the anniversary and memorial events, Vietnam Veterans of America has teamed up with Boston Publishing Company, known to most of our members as the publisher of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book series, The Vietnam Experience.
Harris Connect has started to contact our members, by phone and email, regarding the Membership Directory. This message is intended to assure our members that the calls from Harris Connect are legitimate. Members do not have to respond if they choose not to.
