Carol Schetrompf joined the U.S. Navy in January 1965. Following basic training, she was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station in Norfolk, Virginia. After her discharge (due to being pregnant), she joined the Army Reserves in 1974. For the next thirty years Carol Schetrompf served in the Reserves, on active duty, and in the Georgia National Guard, seeing service in the military operation in Panama in December of 1989.

She served as secretary of VVA Chapter 789 in Hinesville, Georgia, from 2003-0 7, and served as VVA Georgia State Council Vice President from 2004-2006. She was elected VVA Region 4 Director in 2007.

She is the mother of t wo, stepmother of one, and grandmother of seven, and lives Ludowici, Georgia.
