(Washington, D.C. ) –
Country music star Alton Miller, an Army
veteran who served as a tank crewman with the U.S. Army’s 34th
Armor Regiment in Iraq, will be among the entertainers at “Broadway to
Baghdad,” a star-studded special event sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of
America on Tuesday, October 17, in New York City.
Miller will travel from his home in
Manhattan, Kansas, to Manhattan to perform during the first part of the
two-part event, which will honor America’s fightingmen and women—a USO-type
show from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the HBO Theater. The event also includes an 8
o’clock performance of the new Twyla Tharp musical “The Times They Are A-Changin’
” at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
Miller will perform his stirring song, “The
Man That Made the Medal,” which he wrote in honor of Army Master Sergeant
William L. Payne, who was killed in Iraq in May of 2003. He has played the
song many times, including at memorial services for fallen comrades while he
was serving in Iraq.
“Vietnam Veterans of America’s motto is
‘Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another,’ ” said VVA
President John Rowan. “And we are very proud to feature Iraq War veteran
Alton Miller and his music at this event, one of many VVA efforts to honor
the newest generation of American veterans and to reach out to them, with
the benefit of our experience, to help them adjust to life back home.”
Special sponsorship packages, including
opportunities to help active-duty service members attend the events, are
available. To find out more, contact Pat Gualtieri at 877-727-2333 or go to
