Incarcerated Veterans The law allows the VA to limit the amount of compensation to veterans who are incarcerated for a felony conviction (i.e., you may receive compensation at the 10% level). The withheld compensation, however, can be "apportioned" to your family. If you cannot obtain a VA examination while in prison, try to obtain a detailed medical report from your facility's doctor/psychiatrist or a private one. Ask the doctor to use the criteria in the VA’s rating schedule as a guide. ________________________________________________________ Copyright © 2004, Vietnam
