It’s time to start spreading the word about AVVA’s Better Chance Scholarship. It was started in January 1998 by AVVA to help veterans and their families ease the financial burdens on students. The scholarships are for $1,000, $750, and $500.

ELIGIBILITY

Recipients must be VVA or AVVA members; the spouse, child, or grandchild of a VVA or AVVA member; or the spouse, child, or grandchild of a KIA or MIA Vietnam veteran. Recipients must be registered in an accredited college, university, or post-secondary training institute and must be able to prove financial need through the Federal Student Aid Application form.

APPLICATION

Applicants must submit the following by June 1, 2007:

  • A completed application form
  • A copy of the Official Student Aid Report from the Federal Student Aid Program.
  • A copy of the most recent high school or college transcript
  • Proof of acceptance from a college
  • At least two letters of reference from a current or former teacher, adviser, employer, community leader, or minister. Letters cannot be from relatives.
  • A letter of recommendation from a chapter or state council president.

All of the above must be included with the application form and sent to the committee, postmarked by June 1, 2007. Forms should be submitted to: Kathy Andras, P.O. Box 790, Boothville, LA 70038.
